I will regularly upload 3 or 4 different encodes of the same video optimized for many different devices. Why send an iPhone a 1GB file when a 200MB one will do, for example? The problem comes in with the distribution partners such as YouTube, Vimeo and Roku.
When I upload a bunch of different files and add them to the video formats section, each distribution point will take a different video. For example it appears as though Vimeo will take the lower res web copy whereas YouTube will take the higher-res Master copy. There is nothing on the site that tells me this, I just have to upload a bunch of stuff and try it out to see what maps where in different situations.
It would be cool if I could set the priority for each distribution point. For example, I could tell Vimeo to always use the master file when available. Then use the AppleTV file when available. Then use the Web copy when available. Set the priority myself so I always know what will be sent where and why. The other option is asking which file should be used on each distribution point. Before sending to YouTube tell me there there are three versions of the file, and ask which one I want to use.
I think having more control over what is sent where and why would be idea. Just my $0.02.

I looks like it isn't quite there yet. I hope it will be very soon.

It would rock if there were some type of format guide that was updated somewhat frequently, I'm in the same boat as you Benjamin. I've found conflicting information and some of it has led me down the wrong path only because it was very dated materials.
Blip.tv will then transcode a smaller file called Blip SD. This is the file that your player on blip defaults to playing. If you have set up distribution to YouTube and Vimeo, blip will cross-upload your Master file, since each of those services perform their own transcodes as well.
One last thing: Pro Account holders will also receive a Blip HD transcode, in addition to the Blip SD transcode. This is the file that plays when a viewer clicks the HD button in the player.

@Broken Bonds - I just checked your account and it looks like you have Vimeo and YouTube set-up and are cross-posting successfully. If you're having trouble, you can open up a new support ticket with more specific details.

You should upload a high-quality Master file that follows our recommended export guidelines here: http://support.blip.tv/entries/344530-how-should-i-export-my-videos...
