After a long run, the blip.tv Show Player has been taken out of service, replaced by the Stratos player. Stratos has actually been our primary player for quite some time, with the Show Player resigned to legacy technology. As of today, the legacy has come to an end. Any legacy embeds have been automagically replaced with the Stratos player.
As a result, functionality and playback will be significantly improved. If you’re encountering any problems, please visit support.blip.tv.

is there any chance to have the new videoplayer with sidebar in order to list other videos more visibly and permanently? you promised another user about 7 months ago.
that player with the sidebar worked very well for many of us who wanted to showcase other episodes prominently and very visibly in one player on our website. Or, at least, please have the options to use the old legacy player with the sidebar. This new playlist doesn't work for us, it's too hard to find for less web-savvy viewers, even i had a hard time to figure out what happened, had to go to blip.tv and find the reason why the sidebar disappeared. It was part of the design on our community webportal.
Please, have a sidebar options as soon as possible. otherwise we love blip.tv.
thanks,
Zsolt
Hi Zsolt - Stratos can show a playlist as well. Have you looked at our tutorial? http://support.blip.tv/entries/381611-how-to-create-a-playlist
I believe Zsolt wants to know if you can have a SIDEBAR playlist, like the old player that's next to the main player. The playlist that you see once you've started your video and then have to hover over to see a graphic that you then have to click is not intiutive what so ever. I've found a sidebar widget under your Distribution area, but it doesn't allow you to select a specific playlist. Please advise as having a playlist being essentially buried in the player is a step back. As Steve Krug would say, "don't make me think". You shouldn't have to make your viewers work to find old episodes, it should be easier to display.
Exactly, as Scott stated it. it is not only not intuitive but now the main page of our community webportal is ruined as I featured the videoplayer prominently on the top of my page with the sidebar as part of the design. The player looked very nice with the sidebar of the other episodes, and gave the viewer a better experience to discover the other episodes. This new player doesn't provide the same aesthetic experience either.
We need the sidebar for design integration and better usability. Among my viewers are a lot of older people and they have a hard time with internet things anyway and this makes it even harder for them to find or start a video.
Please provide us with an option for a sidebar with the other episodes, and until then, please give us back the old legacy player. I really like using blip.tv but probably have to use some other video service for my portal player on the main page because this new player is just not fitting. And leave the blip player only in the articles where I put individual clips.
Scott, can you direct me to the place where you found the sidebar widget, it may be some help to me for now as I just need an all episodes playlist for my portal video player at the present. I hope it doesn't require coding or confusing html stuff because i am not that good at that either.
Zsolt,
Once you're logged in, click on the Dashboard and then scroll to the very bottom of the page. In the footer area there's a category called You. Under that, click on Distribution. Once you get to that page, in the left column there's a link called Sidebar. That allows you configure a sidebar with however many videos you want and then you can grab the HTML code. Unfortunately, I don't see a place where you can include a specific playlist, which is what I need.
thanks, Scott. I will try that out.
I checked the sidebar widget out. it doesn't work for me from both a design viewpoint and because when clicked it will take the viewer away from our community site to blip.tv and this is not what we intended with the multiepisode videoplayer. All episodes should play in one embedded video player. Please, blip.tv, can you provide us with a similar sidebar option in the near future as the one we had with the old legacy players? It would be very, very much appreciated.
It is unfortunate when an "upgrade" ends up being a step back in usability. Hopefully a fully integrated sidebar will be forthcoming.
"It is unfortunate when an "upgrade" ends up being a step back in usability. Hopefully a fully integrated sidebar will be forthcoming." That is what I hope for, too. Blip.tv is a great service and site, otherwise, and I hope they listen to us. We need a sidebar option in a multiepisode player for other episodes, or at least, please let us have the old player as an option. Probably there is many more of us who have better use for those old players.
I too want the sidebar playlist back! I was with a client last week and pulled up our site to show them what we can do for them and all of a sudden our play list was gone. This made me look unprofessional. Please give us the option for the sidebar playlist. Even if this is only a feature for pro accounts I would greatly appreciate it.
New player has bugs! Try to click the play button while in the video list view...
So I do request the same. I had my videos in my online portfolio and I was using players with sidebar video list and now the sidebar video list is gone.
Many users that visit my site have no experience at all with video players such as the blip.tv video player. The small scrollbar is not clear for them and they do not scroll it in order to see the complete video list. So many users will miss many videos . This is not good!
They click on what they see. They are most used the player such as the player in a youtube channel. Those players have sidebar video list.
Please provide us with a solution to have a sidebar video list within the video player.
Besides there is a huge bug in this new player. Try to click the play button when you are viewing the video list and the video will play over the video list. Looks like a big mess!
Please keep blip.tv the best online video service as it was until now!
Regards
The bug I just reported happens if you have the playlist visible by default. If you click the play button instead of selecting a video (clicking on a video thumbnail), the video will start to play over the playlist and both will keep visible. This is a huge bug!
You can see this happening in my website:

cheers!
...this is a response i got back from blip support regarding this issue.
"We stopped supporting the show player some months ago but only recently officially retired it. It will not be coming back, but we are planning some similar sidebar style options in the future."
I hope "in the future" is the very near future!
My viewers have been very vocal about the new player. They hate it. I have been flooded with tech support questions regarding the operation of the new player ever since it was launched! PLEASE MAKE THE PLAYER MORE USER FRIENDLY!
Our entire site design was based around the sidebar player. It's very disappointing that you continued this feature as we are now forced to recode a number of embeds in our database.
i think what thomas wanted to say is "very disappointing that you DIScontinued this feature". Our site design was based around the sidebar player as well. it would be great if blip.tv would come out very soon with some similar sidebar style options, as they informed Matt Green, for all users not just the pros. Otherwise, blip.tv is our favourite video service.Let's hope future is the very near future.
Thanks for that, I did mean DIScontinue :).
When someone clicks on the title of the video on the overlay (while the video is playing) it opens this video in blip.tv in a new window. Is it possible to avoid this redirection?
I too am dissapointed with the removal of the sidebar playlist. The very prominent position this player was given on my clients site was integral to the design of the page. The playlist down the side along with the video gave that area of the page its dimensions. Now there is no sidebar we have ugly black lines down either side. Making the player higher or narrower to resolve this isnt an option. But all of this is pretty secondary to the fact that the sidebar playlist was absolutely ideal for thier needs and the 'upgrade' simply doesnt provide the same fundamental functionality.
I wish we'd get some feedback or reaction from Blip about this issue on this thread. And Zsolt, I'm a pro account customer, so the no sidebar issue is for all customers. I put in a customer support request with Blip and the answer I got back was just to direct me to this blog post and the "how to make a playlist" tutorial. I already know how to create a playlist, I have several! What I need is the ability to put that playlist in a sidebar next to my video player.
New player is really bad. I also need the sidebar. I'm gonna have to use the youtube video player, as horrible as it looks, at least it's functional.
Please can BlipTV add the show side bar back, getting losts of users not being able to view other shows.
Considering moving to vimeo if this is not resolved
I also miss the sidebar. It was great for third party embeds. I hope that it returns soon.
This should be switched back. Like others who have already responded, we had invested lots of time in the old playlist. Now, we will have to go back to those older posts, as well as figure out what we want to do for the new posts as well. This isn't good.
Dude the stratos player does not work!!!! the old player did....NOW NONE OF OVER MY 5,000 PLAYERS WONT WORK what the hell
its not working on blip.... now it only works from facebook...ERIC was the previous player really bothering blip.tv that much why they had to get rid of it could both of the player co-exist? thanks for making me waste the last 2 years posting players that now dont work
i mean its not working on ning.com
Amani - Can you please send a link to an example? Even though we shut off the old player in January, most users had been using it for much, much longer. We haven't encountered any issues like the ones you're describing. Please open a ticket so we can investigate.
none of my users like the new player
It is a great new players the only problem is : the IFRAME object that is not supported by the default joomla editors
It is surely going to cause a lot of problem to the joomla community
Could you please find a solution
youtube have decided to make their clients choose between the object tag and the iframe tag
@camden: You can use the regular embed code by unchecking iPhone-compatible in your custom player settings: http://blip.tv/dashboard/players
The downside is, your video will not play on iOS devices.
Any recent news about bringing back the SIDEBAR playlist to this new player? It's been all crickets chirping here and clearly by seeing the comments above, numerous customers would like the option of having a sidebar playlist next to the currently running video.
Still waiting for a new sidebar player. I might as well stop using blip.tv if I can't have the sidebar.
Why are there no ads on my new video. It's been will over an hour now that I've uploaded it and I haven't seen "one" ad. Surely there is a mistake. Everyone of my past videos have shown ads, but the newest one isn't showing any.
I can't believe that the new player doesn't support audio only (my podcast) at all anymore! That sucks. Combined with the discontinuation of linking the episode straight to my blog - blip has become rather unusable for my business!
Hi Mail - blip.tv is a platform for the best in original web video series... we're not really set up for audio-only podcasts. If you do a search, you'll find many other podcast hosts that are geared for exactly what you're looking for, and better suited to fill your needs.
Will there be an option for adding the side bar again, really really miss this, used to look so great for embedding into our web site. This used to be a real plus for Blip TV and recommend blip tv to others based on this functionality.
Where is the API documented? The developer wiki does not seem to be current withis player.
Where is the API documentation for the new player?
Could someone post a link to it?
